Chitwan District
Jhuwani Village

The village of Jhuwani is in southern Nepal's Terai region, not far from the Chitwan National Park. In recent years the area's fertile soil has attracted many people and dramatically increased the region's population to 14,000. Agriculture is the main profession and the major crops are oil seeds, rice and maize. The villagers represent several different ethnic groups, including Brahmin, Chhetri, Newar, Gurung, Tamang, and Sarki. READ initially supported the construction and furnishing of a one-story Community Library and Resource Center, along with the purchase of an ambulance. With revenues accrued from the ambulance service, the community raised enough funds to complete a second story. It contains a office room, one Computer section which provides computer training to locals, one women section, one health service section carries regular health clinic service, blood donation program and a training hall which is used for the Center as well as rented to others for certain short periods.
