Mr. Sonam Karma Tshering Mr. Sonam Karma Tshering is the project manager for the Information Communication Technology (ICT) and the Institute for Technical Education (ITE) projects under the REC (Royal Education Council). His qualifications include degrees in Economics (B.A) and Law (LL.B) and a post graduate degree in Public Finance (MPF). Before joining the REC he worked for nearly 12 years in the Ministry of Finance, in the tax department and also in the policy and planning division of the Ministry.
Mr. Karma Yeshey Mr. Karma Yeshey currently serves as the Director of the Department of Adult and Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, Royal Government of Bhutan. Originally from Durung village in Trashigang (eastern Bhutan), Mr. Yeshey is well versed with extensive and intensive involvement in the education quality, structure and system in rural and urban Bhutan. He worked as the Chief of the School Curriculum Division in the Ministry of Education for over four years, and as Principal for seventeen years in schools ranging from lower secondary to higher secondary schools across Bhutan. Currently he also teaches part-time a masters programme in education for school administrators at the Royal University of Bhutan, and has been a visiting lecturer at the University of St. Francis Xavier in Canada.
Ms. Chime Paden Wangdi Ms. Chime Paden Wangdi is the Secretary General of Tarayana Foundation. Prior to this, she was the head of Policy and Planning Division (PPD) in the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), the Royal Government of Bhutan. Ms. Wangdi has dedicated herself to the cause of poverty alleviation in Bhutan for the last 18 years in various capacities including that of Programme Coordinator for the Integrated Horticulture Development Programme, seeking out interventions that bring in cash income as well as improved household nutrition. She served on National Policy as a member of the Planning Commission, Renewable Natural Resources, on Sectoral Policy as head of PPD, MOA, and as member in many Governmental committees and boards. She was a former member of the Policy Analysts Network, South Asia (PANSA) and continues to serve as one of two National Commissioners for the Independent South Asia Commission on Poverty Alleviation (ISACPA), and works closely with other national as well as regional poverty alleviation projects and programmes. She has a masters degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York.
Ms. Siok Sian Pek-Dorji Ms. Siok Sian Pek-Dorji has worked extensively with government, NGOs, the UN system and development partners in media and development projects with special interests in women and children, and culture. In a career spanning more than 20 years, Ms. Pek-Dorji is journalist by training and a media specialist. She has been involved in media management and planning, production, research, and training. Ms. Pek-Dorji has produced numerous publications and TV documentaries for local, regional and international publications and broadcasters. With Bhutan's transition to a democracy, she has set up a non-profit Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy whose mandate is to focus on developing the democratic culture in Bhutan through strengthening media literacy. She is a founding member of the Friends of the Library in Bhutan, and is a director of the Bhutan Broadcasting Service. Ms. Pek-Dorji has a masters degree in international communications from Macquarie University in Sydney.
Ms. Kay Kirby Dorji Ms. Kay Kirby Dorji is a longtime resident of Bhutan, having first come to the country in 1986. She spent 25 years as a journalist, including at the Los Angeles Times, and now serves as a United Nations consultant in more than 20 countries from Central Asia to the Pacific. In Bhutan, she has supported the formulation of numerous high-level Government and UN documents and has been a supporter of RENEW and REWA.
Ms. Dago Beda Ms. Dago Beda graduated from Punjab University Chandigarh with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1979. She joined the Department of Tourism in 1980 as the Sales Manager. After the privatization of tourism in 1990, Ms. Beda and two of her colleagues from the tourism department starteda travel company - Etho Metho Tours & Treks in 1991.The company today is ranked number two in the tourism industry. She is also the proprietor of two other successful ventures - a school and a cable company. Ms. Beda is considered one of the pioneers of her generation especially among women. Many younger women look up to her as asymbol of a successful career woman in Bhutan.
