READ is looking to expand its replicable model to other countries around Asia in the next 2–5 years, and ultimately, around the world. This expansion is being carefully crafted in accordance with READ’s strategic plan and will focus on countries with the following criteria:
Greatest Need READ considers: literacy and education levels; percentage of population living under $1 a day; unemployment; rural vs urban population; current library situation (library totals & locations across country, accessibility, quality, and technology capabilities).
Current Aid READ considers: number of NGO/INGOs working on development projects in rural areas of the country. READ prefers countries with greater need; the READ model can work where other development programs have failed.
Potential for Sustainable Success READ considers: an in-depth analysis of the likelihood of success; includes other INGOs experiences and opinions; in-country recommendations; review of country conflict and/or political turmoil; funding sources; government regulations; currency exchange-rate; stability rankings; corruption perception.
Geographic Location For the immediate future, close proximity to Nepal, India and Bhutan is important for ease of communication, travel, and training; but as growth continues, this proximity will become less of an issue. |
