Our Story
In the late 1980’s, Myths and Mountains cultural tour leader, Dr. Antonia Neubauer, led a trek through Nepal. Amidst the breathtaking landscapes, she asked her Nepali guide what one thing he wished for most in his village. “A library,” he replied.

His simple wish inspired the founding of READ Global in 1991. Right away, READ Global was different. Dr. Neubauer understood that these rural villagers knew their own needs and strengths best – they just needed the educational and economic hand-up (not hand-out) to meet their rural needs. So READ Global pioneered the concept of sustainability in the early '90's with Centers that are far more than places to hold books. READ helps build Community Libraries and Resource Centers, where villagers can gather, and villages can grow – economically, educationally, and socially.
