Help Fund These Centers
 
Below are profiles of communities that need your help to establish a READ Center today.
 
 
1. The Triphala Rastriya Community Library Resource Center in Jhapa district, eastern Nepal will serve 3,000 members of the community if we can secure adequate funding.  In this part of Nepal the literacy rate is only 51.8% for women and per capita income is $232 per year. The majority of the families in the district are subsistence farmers or work at local fisheries or in forestry. The community needs $11,333 USD to fund the cost of construction, to buy books and computers and to hire and train library staff. The community has already raised $4,666 toward reaching their goal and are in need of funding to complete the project. The building has already been constructed and the community is counting on your generous support to help them get closer to opening the center someday soon.  They''re planning a conference hall, event rental services and an endowment fund for their business enterprise. The money earned through these enterprises will support the operational costs for the Center.
 
2. The Janachetana Community Library Resource Center in Kanchanpur district, southwest Nepal will reach 35,403 direct beneficiaries in need.  85% of the residents of Kanchanpur district are farmers or laborers and the average per capita income is only $228 per year.  Overall the adult literacy rate is very low here, only 49.2% overall and only 37.2% of women can read.  The members of Kanchanpur district are in desperate need of access to adult literacy and job training, which the Center can provide once they can get more money to complete the project. The estimated costs for the center are around $30,522 USD and the people have gathered $4,285 USD so far. The community has partnered with a local organization called Sharada Social Equity Development Association (SSEDA-Nepal) to develop a proposal and is collaborating  with local groups to plan for the center. The community is planning to have store front rentals and a conference hall inside the Center as a business enterprise. Kanchanpur is a very remote district and the site at Dodhara village can only be accessed through the Indian border due to rough terrain. You can help by donating and making their dream of a site for learning and social development come true.
 
3.  The Janajagriti Community Library Resource Center in Dhusa village in Dhading district in central Nepal will provide education, access to information and job training/opportunities to 6,350 people.  Most of the residents of Dhading district rely on traditional farming or small businesses as a means for survival.  The literacy rate in Dhading district is 47.7% overall and 22.7% for women.  The community has partnered with the Farmer Development Food and Vegetable Cooperative to develop a proposal and strategy for the center and want to focus on helping women farmers in the area. So far the community has raised $3,266 USD toward the total costs for construction, books, equipment and library staff which are $24,000 USD in total. The community wants to empower local women in agriculture and plans to work with local grocery shop Shajha Pasal to open a branch at the Center and help local women sell fruit and vegetables.  The  community needs your help in helping to ensure livelihoods for the families of Dhusa village. 
 
4. The Gardi Community Library Resource Center in Baruwa village in the Chitwan district of central Nepal will provide services to 14,600 potential patrons who live in the surrounding areas. Literacy rates for women in Chitwan are only around 55.1% and per capita income is $224 per year.  The main occupations in Baruwa district are farming and skilled or unskilled labor.  The total estimated costs to start up the center are $61,811 USD and the people will contribute $19,998 USD to reach their goal.  The planned business enterprise will be a computer center, conference hall and guest room. The funds generated from these locally owned businesses will sustain the operational costs of the Center.  Your contribution to the Gardi Center will directly impact the lives of thousands of children and families.
 
5. The Ghodaghadi Community Library Resource Center in Shukhad, Kailali district in the far western region of Nepal can offer opportunities for education and poverty alleviation to the more than 7000 people who live in the area.  Literacy rates in Kailali district are only 46.5% overall and only 32.3% for women. Average per capita income is $228 USD per year and the majority of the community are farmers or laborers.  The residents of Shukhad have raised $19,998 USD toward their goal of $73,333 USD for the entire cost.  The people have been closely working with local community based groups to develop a proposal and project plan for the Center.  They''re planning to have storefront rentals available to local small business owners as a business enterprise. Kailali district was greatly affected by the armed conflict and is in need of your support to build a Center to restore community development.
 
6. The Kushumeshwor Community Library Resource Center in Kusum, Banke district in the western region of Nepal dreams of providing income generating opportunities and education to the 8,242 people who live in the region. The adult literacy rate in Banke district, which shares the border with India, is 48.6% overall.  Literacy rates are even lower for women at 43%. The majority of individuals in this community are subsistence farmers, small business owners or work in both skilled and unskilled labor. The average per capita income is $207 USD per person per year.  The Kusum villagers are planning a computer center, a community event hall and storefront rentals.  To complete the project the community needs a total of $72,102 USD and have already raised $10,988 USD toward their goal. Your generous contribution to help the Kusum community empower their families through education, access to information and community development will be greatly appreciated.
 
7. The Narayug Community Library Resource Center in Alapot village outside Kathmandu in the central region of Nepal will serve five surrounding villages just outside the capital city.  There are 50,000 people living among the region and a center here would have a direct impact on a very large number of families in need.  The adult literacy rate is 58.6% overall and the average per capita income is $382 USD per person.  The residents of these surrounding villages engage in goat raising, vegetable farming and dairy farming for their livelihood.  These communities have united and partnered with a local organization The Bhagawan Yowa Club to develop a proposal and strategy. The effort has included the help of local women''s groups, civil groups and student groups to raise $19,666 USD of the total $82,666 needed.  The  community is proposing a farm cooperative, storefront rentals and a community hall as a sustainability project.  The funds collected through the business enterprise will cover the operational costs of the Center.  You support in helping these communities reach their goal will truly help inspire rural prosperity.
 
8. The Suryodaya Community Library Resource Center in Devistan village in Parbat district in the western hill region of Nepal will provide educational resources and materials to the 1,608 people who live in the community. The average per capita income is $220 and the overall literacy rate for adults is 51.2%.  The community is proposing a community hall for local events, storefront rentals and a computer center for a sustainability project.  The funds generated by the business enterprise will support the costs to keep the center going. The total costs for this Center are estimated at $56,000 USD and the community has already committed $7,860 themselves.  The British aid agency DFID is also very interested in helping fund this Center.  Your contribution can help the residents of Devistan village and their neighbors gain access to valuable skills and educational opportunities.
