Irma Gogiashvili has been part of the READ Global family for almost four years now. She started her career in the International field very early in life, and worked for several years in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), dedicated to strengthening human rights and democratic processes around Eastern Europe. Irma worked with OSCE’s Election Observation Mission in Georgia in 1995, when the first democratic elections were held in an independent country after 70 years of Soviet rule. After moving to the United States Irma continued her education in International Conflict Resolution and received her Masters from the Monterey Institute/Middlebury College of International Studies. Irma worked in several Bay Area based Non-Profits such as the World Affairs Council, the Asia Foundation and Give2Asia, including on an assignment in Kabul, Afghanistan, and worked with Amazon Watch, organization dedicated to protecting Amazon Rainforest and supporting indigenous peoples.
Irma is a tireless activist for Social and Environmental Justice, Women’s Empowerment and Education, and experienced first hand the power that more accessible education opportunities can hold. She speaks – aside from English – Georgian, Russian, and French. She is always involved in various art and activist projects, and is a strong believer in the importance of education to expand our understanding of ourselves, and the planet we live on. Currently, she is based in Tbilisi, Georgia.
