The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has been an integral partner for READ since 2006, when READ Nepal won the Foundation’s Access to Learning Award. Since then the Foundation has supported our expansion into Bhutan and India, and has more recently provided capacity-building funding to help us strengthen our program design, information and communications technology offerings, monitoring and evaluation processes, and fundraising capacity.
The Reach Out to Asia Foundation, in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has begun an exciting new partnership with READ in Nepal. This four-year, $2 million grant will allow us to significantly increase the number of READ Centers, develop new youth programs, and strengthen our information & communication technology (ICT) resources and programs– benefiting approximately 100,000 people.
Caterpillar Foundation is partnering with READ to continue our expansion in India to the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. Through this four-year, $500,000 partnership, we will establish 3-4 READ Centers and provide communities with educational programs that will benefit an estimated 25,000 people.
Walmart India and CAF India have partnered with READ India in rural Rajasthan on a women’s empowerment initiative to provide education, leadership development and livelihood training to women. The two-year project has reached 2,500 women in the underprivileged community of Geejgarh, enabling them to read and write, take the lead in various village forums, and increase their livelihoods by stitching dresses and cloth shopping bags.
The University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School awarded READ the 2013 Barry and Marie Lipman Family Prize, which annually recognizes one organization creating sustainable solutions to social and economic challenges. READ received a cash prize and is partnering with Wharton/UPenn faculty, students and alumni to further READ’s work.
We are one of the partners of Amazon India’s Gift a Smile program, which enables you to make a gift to a READ Center in India instantly and conveniently. Sojern, a data-driven traveler engagement platform, is leveraging its media and technology expertise to drive awareness of READ Global programs. Sojern’s regional teams will participate in fundraising efforts for READ, contribute their skills to READ infrastructure projects, and travel on-site to help support READ Centers.
